Claim The Realm - basic gameplay

An Overview of Claim The Realm

Claim The Realm is a 2 player turn-based map-building virtual board game of chance and strategy.

The Realm is a matrix of 400 cells (20 x 20), comprised of the main village Mira, 8 smaller villages and 8 unclaimed natural resources.

Each player starts from the centre of the board and alternates placing gametiles onto the Realm, creating independent roads to claim resources and build alliances with the other villages.

There are 3 types of gametile; straight, corner & T-piece. Gametiles can be rotated to change the orientation to better suit the players intended direction.

Claiming resources scores players' points as well as providing population boosts; which makes it easier to forge alliances with the other villages.

The game is played until all resources have been claimed and alliances formed with all villages; the player with the most points wins!

A Brief History of Claim The Realm

Hi, I'm Paul, I created Claim The Realm. Ever since I was a kid, I was always fascinated by computers and games; the Amiga, Amstrad & Atari days. I always wanted to make something of my own.

Last year (2021) I made a decision to finally sit down and properly create a game I wanted to play, a game of my own. I wanted to create something that visually harked back to the basic graphics of my childhood, mixed with the nostalgia of sitting around the coffee table in the living room and playing board games.

I was inspired by the classics of the map-building board game universe; Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, Risk etc.

Claim The Realm is completely 100% free to play, with no ads or banners. It is intended to be played on a large screen by 2 players sitting next to each other. Whilst the game may work on touchscreen tablets, it probably won't be easy to play on a smaller mobile phone screen; it was never intended to be.

A good accompaniment to the game is playing A Soft Murmur in the background; I personally like a nice mix of coastal waves, wind, birds and a crackling fire.

Claim The Realm is coded in Javascript, utilising the p5.js library. You can read more information about p5.js here.

Help Grow The Realm...

Claim The Realm is a constant-evolving project; the current version (1.1 - January 2022) is by no means completed and perfect.

I have plans for expanding the game, such as hidden elements / obstructions, different gameplay styles and a simple AI / CPU user for 1 player mode.

I always want the game to be free for anyone to play, with no annoying ads or banners.

If you enjoy playing the game and want to say thanks, donations are always welcome through PayPal, but never expected.
